Jacqueline Taylor of Columbia, SC, comes from a musical family and began cello at age 8. At age 18, she became more serious about her performance skills and began studies with Robert Jesselson [University of SC] followed by Richard Kapachinsky [Oberlin] and Christopher Rex [Atlanta Symphony]. Jacqueline has undertaken Master Classes with many World Class Artists including Janos Starker, Carter Brey, Ronald Leonard and Steven Doane. She has also studied at the National Orchestral Institute [University of Maryland] and Meadow Mount School in NY.
Jacqueline has performed concertos with many orchestras including Augusta Symphony, Asheville Symphony, Brevard Chamber Orchestra and the South Carolina Philharmonic . With only 23 hours notice, she was asked to stand in for Janos Starker and perform the Elgar Cello Concerto. Jacqueline recieved rave reviews--"Hers was a reading of extreme sensivity, showing her deep capacity for intensely expressive sound.." [The STATE, Jan. 25, 1994]
Highly regarded as an orchestral musician, Jacqueline has sat principal in many regional orchestras including Savannah Symphony, Etheridge Chamber Orchestra, Columbia Lyric Opera Orchestra and the Conductors Institute at the University of South Carolina. She has played under several acclaimed conductors including Yoel Levi, James Depriest and Harold Fabermann.
Jacqueline is a founding member of the Sterling Chamber Players and Upton Piano Trio, the latter formerly featured in Spoleto and on cable and network TV. Among the Trios regional concerts have been performances in SAM Walton Performing Arts Center [Ark], Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts [Washinton, DC] and at the Weil Recital Hall [ NY]. Jacqueline enjoys teaching cello and has taught at the University of SC and Columbia College.
Jacqueline is currently principal for the Asheville Symphony and has released her first solo cd which features her Solo Performance of Schelmo. She also enjoys her wildlife habitat which has also been featured in the local media.
